Thesis Title: Ethnic-cultural diversity, regimes of integration and social cohesion in Europe
Prof. dr. Marc Hooghe
About
Social sciences have always been concerned with social cohesion. One of the main theories is that diversity weakens the social bonds within a society. Since the 1960s, Europe has been faced with high levels of immigration. However, not every country has the same high levels of immigration and most countries differ with respect to their policy responses on these immigration flows. In my research, I would like to assess to what extent ethnic-cultural diversity affects the social bonds, and if certain types of minority policy help in strengthen social cohesion.
