About

An Goris is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Leuven (Belgium), where is working on the popular romance novel, genre and authorship. She recently completed her PhD dissertation "From Roberts to Romance and Back Again. Genre, Authorship and Textual Identity" (2011) in which she analyzes the shifting relationship between genre and authorship in the vast oeuvre of contemporary popular romance writer Nora Roberts.

An Goris studied Germanic Philology and Literary Studies at the University of Leuven (2002-2007), where she specialized in English and comparative literature. Her M.A. thesis focussed on creative writing handbooks for popular romance. As an exchange student An spent a semester at Aarhus University in Denmark (2005) and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (2007). In the 2009-2010 academic year An was a Fulbright visiting research scholar at DePaul University in Chicago.

An has published papers on popular romance writing, the translation of popular romance novels and popular romance handbooks as a form of constraint writing. She is an active member of the International Association for the Study of Popular Romance (IASPR) and was conference chair of IASPR's second annual conference (Brussels, August 2010). She is also the Managing Editor of Journal of Popular Romance Studies.
